A.A.P.I. Heritage Month: Day 2- Crazy Rich Asians & Spotlight: Indonesia

🌴Good Evening Friends!🌴

Grab your little passports, fellow Littles, because today we are jetting off to the island nation of Indonesia! With more than 300 different languages and 6 major religions in one country, Indonesia is a melting pot of many cultures. Come learn with me as we travel across this vast archipelago that spans along the equator of the Southeast Pacific.

With the world’s largest Muslim population, this country has a unique variety of cultural influences. But before we dive in, let’s stop and take a look at today’s Asian movie of the day!

🎬Asian Movie of the Day: Crazy Rich Asians!🎬

✈️Rachel Chu is happy to accompany her longtime boyfriend, Nick, to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore. She’s also surprised to learn that Nick’s family is extremely wealthy and he’s considered one of the country’s most eligible bachelors. Thrust into the spotlight, Rachel must now contend with jealous socialites, quirky relatives and something far, far worse — Nick’s disapproving mother. ✈️

🥣Step 2: Let’s go on a tour of some spicy street food in Jakarta, Indonesia (on the island of Java). 🥣

🎼Step 3: Lets listen to a massively popular Indonesian pop song called, “Lagi Syantik” (or “I Am Beautiful Now”). Here is the English translation of the lyrics for your enjoyment. 🎼

🎼In fact, this song was SO popular that it inspired a viral dance challenge among younger Indonesians! 🎼

🎤Step 4: Now let’s take a look at the Indonesian people. As a largely Muslim country, polygamy is legal in the nation. Here is a great street interview that asks Indonesians how common they feel polygamy is in their country. 🎤
