A.A.P.I. Heritage Month: Day 4- Moana & Spotlight: India

🐮Good Evening Friends!🐮

Grab your passports and get ready to dance because we are off to the land of the Taj Mahal, spices of every color, and Hindu temples that look like palaces. Yes, we are going to India! Did you know that India is the wettest inhabited place on earth? It’s true! India has an entire monsoon season that last for 6 months out of the year! (Now, that’s a lot of rain). In addition, there are more than 2 million temples throughout this vast South Asian country. But before we dive in more to Indian culture, let’s pause and look at today’s Asian movie of the day.

📽 Asian and Pacific Islander Spotlight Movie of the Day: Moana 📽

Does anyone else sing their heart out to every Moana song? From the moment I first saw this movie I fell in love with every character and song. From Grandma Tala (who becomes a manta ray!!) to the adorable and fierce Kakamora tribe, I love everything about this movie. If you haven’t seen Moana, or maybe you’re reluctant to do so because you think that the whole movie is going to be one musical number of, “I AM MOANA!!!”…. don’t fret. This movie has a really decent storyline with depth and the way that Disney pulled in elements of the the real Pacific Island explorers who sailed to settle between Tonga, Fiji, and Samoa was beautifully depicted. In short, check out this movie on Disney+. It’s totally worth it!

India is a vibrant nation full of sights, sounds, smells, and colors. With 22 recognized languages and over 1 billion people there is so much to see and experience in this amazing country. Today we are going to get a taste of everything India has to offer. Let’s first explore the food of India by watching this street food tour.

Seriously, how mouthwatering do those dishes look?! I LOVE Indian food and often make curry dishes for Daddy and I. Yum!! Alright, now for the next video I want to take you into one of the largest slums in India. Why? Because it’s important to highlight the voices of the people who never get to be seen. The poorest people in the world usually are those that are treated lesser than. They are people without a voice, and to better understand Indian culture I feel that it’s important to look outside of the rich and famous. Let’s look at how a normal citizen lives.

I want to end this tour of India with dancing to one of my favorite songs, “Main Tera Boyfriend”. Sadly, the main male dancer, Sushant Singh Rajput, passed away in 2020 after losing a battle with depression and ending his life at the young age of 34. It just makes this video that much more special to remember the actor, dancer, and talented man that he was. Please enjoy, and remember that if you’re ever feeling depressed to reach out to someone you trust.

Alright my friends, that’s it from me for this post. I hope you all enjoyed learning about India. Have a wonderful night and I will see you right back here for the next post!

Much love,
